Part 4 (Finale): Princess Ka‘iulani of Hawai‘i
A famous fire, a secret engagement, and a fateful ride.
Welcome back! This is the fourth and final installment in the story of Princess Ka‘iulani of Hawai‘i.
When we last left Ka‘iulani, she was still in Europe - hoping there was a way to bring back the Hawaiian monarchy. But when even the president of the United States, Grover Cleveland, failed to achieve that goal, she realized it was time to move on.
Her father joined her in Europe, where the two of them lived a nomadic life - drifting between Menton, Paris, London, and Scotland. Along the way, she made friends, found a "Father Confessor," and had a killer headache that actually saved her life.
But eventually, she and her father realized ...

But it did, and we'll see how Queen Lili‘uokalani and Ka‘iulani reacted. Just ...

Two Minute Tiara Teaser: Helen Herron Taft

Hi everyone! This is just a super short two-minute video to introduce Helen Herron Taft...and ask if you have any information about her tiara(s). She was one of the few First Ladies of the United States who wore a tiara during her time in the White House. After a quick look, it doesn't seem like there's much information out there about her tiaras, so I thought I'd ask you guys! She may get a fu...

What does it cost to blur the line between truth and fiction? A lot, as it turns out. When I was little, I never understood why movies about real people featured the following disclaimer: “Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events, is purely coincidental.” It was a blatant lie. Of course Elliott Ness in The Untouchables wasn’t made-up. Neither was Howard Hughes in The A...

A robbery, an arrest, another arrest, Soviet prison, and the threat of nuclear war. No big deal, right? This is final installment of the story of Alexandra of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and her Fabergé tiara. When we last left Alix and her family near the end of World War II, they had fled Mecklenburg for Schloss Glücksburg, near the Danish border. But there was someone else at Glücksburg - someone t...

A grudge, a ghost, a fire, and the girl who survived it all. This is part one of the story of Alexandra of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and her Fabergé tiara. It was supposed to be a simple story about a tiara - a pretty hat made of diamonds. I didn’t expect it to take me to the darkest places of the 20th century. From war and betrayal to the Third Reich, Soviet prisons, and nuclear war, this story has...

Her disastrous marriage set the stage for a remarkable comeback, leaving her one of the British monarchy's most beloved figures of the 20th century. Princess Marie Louise of Schleswig-Holstein was born in Great Britain, lived in Great Britain, married in Great Britain, and died in Great Britain, but her title never reflected that reality. When she married Prince Aribert of Anhalt, this granddau...

Better living through 18th century chemistry! Over the course of her 50 years in Russia, Catherine the Great wrote three versions of her memoir. It's surprisingly readable - it has funny anecdotes about court life and the occasional remedy for common ailments, which I found hilarious and charming. So of course I couldn't resist making a video to tell you about them. I hope you enjoy this short ...

I had just seen a message to you here that someone else wrong, commenting on napoleon’s marriage, got curious looked it up, oh boy was he one to talk, but the main one who should had made right was his brother, but now it makes sense because well first her dad commenting if she was sure about him, he obviously see very off to him, and to all fairness she didn’t know him long enough, special when he said one thing and did another, he never made an actual attempt to see her, like that famous movie HE IS NOT THAT INTO YOU, he would have cross oceans, climb mountains etc, he was contempt with the life his bother provided for him, he was never going to accomplish himself

You've done such great research about her childhood and young adult life that has brought me to have even more love her and truly understand how much she loved her people. It's ironic that many modern women do not want their daughters to be referred to as princesses. They feel that this play name is a sign of weakness. If they had even a clue about this life in the historical context they would realize this was no easy ride. These women were strong and smart and often took over their husbands role, and usually had UP TO 20 children to keep their family name on the throne.

That’s not what the mahele was but the outcome still happened as explained. Just for different reasons. The Mahele was for natives not foreigners. And all land was still vested in perpetuity to the King for the natives. Foreigners could only lease land. Mahele was an effort of the King to preserve land for natives, especially given that the rules of international relations at the time gave respect for private land owners. So if a country was to take over the government, the natives rights to their land was still intact. Mahele was NOT successful as much as it should have because various reasons. Understanding from the natives is a reason, but so was the need to travel from far distances in order to register for land. Hawaiians always owned land, otherwise why would anyone claim it was stolen. The concepts and responsibilities of ownership was different in the mind of Natives vs Foreigners.
